We saw a hill covered in windmills. Mom said they looked like gnats.
We drove on and then we found a sign for Borax. Yes, the clothes whitener. My mother was thrilled. She was more excited than when we arrived at the sequoias the day before. We pulled in and went to the visitor center.
We saw one of the original wagons from the twenty mule team.
We went into the visitors center and watched an educational film, walked around and we also received free samples of Borax rocks.
This was in display in the center and was not the free sample we received :) |
We looked out the window in the back at the Borax pit (I guess you could call it).
The stop was quick and we were on our way again, back into the empty desert. The buildings were there, but few in numbers. We jumped off the highway onto route 66, because of the Disney Pixar movie Cars.
We were driving along and Mom noticed a sign that said rough road ahead next nine miles and we learned the hard way that when those people say rough road, they aren't kidding.
We got back on the highway as soon as possible without turning around. :) That road was in pretty bad shape and it was sort of sad, but without a use for it there was no need to maintain it and I guess some of it sort of began to fall apart.
Also, around this time of day sometime of day we crossed into Arizona.
We drove for the rest of the day and arrived at a campground that appeared to be modeled after the cars movie and seemed to be honoring the historic route 66.
They had a sort of display from the Disney Pixar movie Cars.
We stayed there and swam in the pool for a while, before calling it a night.
Until Next Time,
Katherine Rose
