We continued driving on a very straight, empty road and we became low on gas and so we were looking for a gas station when a rock flew up from a passing truck and slapped into our windshield. It left a small crack. We turned around and began to pursue the truck. When we finally caught him, it didn't do us much good so we called our insurance company and found a gas station. Finally, after getting food and gas we were back on the road.
The trip took a bit more time and then we finally arrived at the Ingalls Homestead. It was very interesting, but my mother was perhaps the most enthusiastic of us all. I washed some laundry using a hand cranked wringer, :) drove a horse cart (sort of), saw some adorable kittens and learned about Laura Ingalls. Her books are very good. I have read a few of them.
After that, we climbed into a covered wagon and I drove the mules part of the way over to the schoolhouse. Here is a picture of when Joan was driving (the man, of course was there to help at all times):
Two mules: The one on the left is Sally
and the one on the right is Suzie.
We then left and went to another place on the same topic, The Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Homes. We were planning to go on a tour and we did.
As we got out of the car to begin our tour, my Dad spoke up, "I saw a dentist's office somewhere over there. I could probably get some teeth pulled while you guys do this."
He came anyway.
The tour was also very interesting and informative. When we finished, we started on the long ride back to my Great Aunt and Uncle's house.
We stopped at Prairie House Restaurant and had some dinner. It was very good. I ordered a BLT. It was very good.
At the restaurant I asked Dad, "Wasn't that tour better than getting your teeth pulled?"
He kind of looked at me and then finally he said, "No comment."
I had fun anyway and so did the rest of us, so I feel it was well worth it.
Also a fun thing to do at restaurants is to look at your placemat (usually they will have advertisements on them) and pick a word for your friends or family to find. Sometimes it takes them forever to find the word. Brynlee and Roman taught Robbie this and the four of us have played it while waiting for food to arrive in the past.
Robbie drove home and when we got back to Aunt S. and Uncle E's (which was a miracle in itself) we socialized a bit and of course I held Jake :)

Isn't he so cute? I carried him around like a baby and he didn't seem to mind.
The day ended quietly and we went back to the trailer for the night. Apparently there was a large storm and Robbie and I slept straight through it.
Until Next Time,
Katherine Rose
I would have been as excited as your mom!! This was one of the best posts yet! Loving all the pictures! Now I want a BLT....
