Mount Lassen

We got up and packed up the camper again we were off this time headed for Mount Lassen. The car ride held no thrills and we arrived at our destination as planned. The mountain looked similar to Mount Saint Helen except it was covered in snow. Here is a picture of it.
Mount Lassen

We were just driving through so we stopped at the visitors center in order to see what there was to see. We met a man who had his cat on his leash. Mom smiled and later commented, "That was the first cat we have seen on a leash in a National Park."
The man said that he and his wife were traveling to all the National parks because it was the National Parks' 100th anniversary.
We drove through some interesting sites and learned a few facts about Mount Lassen. We also hiked a short distance up Mount Lassen just to get a taste of the landscape and then we were on our way. On our way out, we passed Lake Helen. The snow was just melting off the surface and patches of brilliant blue water had shone through, perhaps reflecting the clear skies we have been blessed with for the majority of this trip:

I captured a picture of the California landscape just as the sun was setting. The purple mountains etched into the background overlooking a glorious rolling field made the perfect shot:

We drove for most of the rest of the day. We arrived in Nevada late.

As we passed through Carson city, we got a great view of the fireworks display going on. Claire rolled her window down to take a picture after a little bit of begging on my part and Herbie did not appreciate the noises the fireworks were displaying. After sleeping for most of the ride, he shot right up when he heard the loud booms.
Just after that we arrived at Mr. and Mrs. Kleiner's house. For once on this vacation since we left Uncle E and Aunt S's we didn't have to set up the 'bear snack pods' as my Father calls them. They are really just soft-sided pop-outs, but you aren't aloud to have them open in areas where there are lots of bears, because they can easily rip through the canvas siding. Hence the name "'bear snack pods".  Dad and Uncle Ed set up the snack pods for us and soon after we went to bed.

Until Next Time,

  1. We are glad you got to the Kleiner's house and got to swim in Lake Tahoe. We continue to enjoy reading about your trip! Uncle David was visiting with us for the 4th of July. We saw some good fireworks at the lake. Hugs to all. Donna and Stephen
