Making a Riser

Last Friday, Claire and I went over to our friend Emily's house for a sleepover. When we arrived, we went upstairs to Emily's room and while Emily and I climbed up onto her bed Claire decided to take a seat on her floor.
We sat quietly and talked for about ten minutes when suddenly we heard a loud snap, like a balloon popping and then the whole bed shifted. Emily investigated and came to the resolution that her bed was on plastic risers and that one of them had broken.
We decided to remove all the risers from under her bed. We went about lifting her bed and pulling out the risers and when we had finished we realized the bed was connected to her head board. She needed the risers under it so there was no strain on the head board.
Claire suggested we replace the riser with a block of wood. Emily decided we could go over to her Grandpa's wood shop and get a block to replace the riser. We went over to the wood shop and found two pieces of wood that- when stacked on top of each other- seemed to be about the same height as the riser.
We left the wood shop and were about to walk back over to Emily's house when we thought it would probably be a good idea to say hello to her Grandma. We went inside and explained our situation before heading back to Emily's house and up into her room to fix her bed.
We put our "make do" riser underneath her bed and put the other three working risers back under it as well. The stacked wood was just a little bit shorter than the risers so we put a flute book on top of them and then we went and got Emily's Dad and showed him our success in fixing the bed.
He kind of looked at it for a second and then he picked up the broken riser and decided it was still intact enough to put underneath the bed and so he removed our wood stack and flute book riser and put the original riser back underneath the bed.
Needless to say, we wasted about a half an hour of our life on our "make do" riser, but it was very eventful and a new way to kick off a sleepover.

Until Next Time,
    Katherine Rose
